Red Bull recently launched their new urban sports title, Red Bull Playgrounds, developed by Traplight. It offers three core sports, BMX, Parkour, and Skate, each with its progression path through Rank Trials. Plus, it includes real-world pros and iconic brands like Mongoose and BSD. In this Red Bull Playgrounds review, I will share my impressions of the game and provide an honest rating.
For this review, I played Red Bull Playgrounds on Motorola G32 (Android), racking up a total of 15 hours of playtime, including the beta period. This allowed me to fully explore and experience everything that the game has to offer, providing me with a solid foundation for a thorough analysis.

Engage in action-packed urban sports with real pros
Starting with the review, let’s dive into the gameplay experience of Red Bull Playgrounds. You start by picking one of the three urban sports: BMX, Parkour, or Skate, and can switch between them anytime. A real-world pro athlete guides you along the way, making the experience better.
The main gameplay revolves around collecting, upgrading, mastering, and performing cool Tricks while not crashing to climb the ranks, with the Red Bull League as the main goal. You can also customize and randomize your Playground to match or style or make it more challenging.

While the gameplay is enjoyable and offers variety, it can start to feel repetitive over time, as there are only two game modes for now. Performance-wise, the game struggles a bit on low-end devices, especially when you take on the competitive Jams mode.
Playing with real athletes and brands is cool, but a lack of content is not
Each sport in the game offers four pro athletes that you can unlock by progressing through Rank Trails, and each one specializes in specific tricks. For instance, Kriss Kyle specializes in GRIND Tricks, while Nikita Ducarros helps you master DASH tricks.

I also loved the game’s deep customization. You can give your Parkour, Skate, and BMX characters their unique looks. Plus, the official gear from popular brands like Cinema, Fiend, Tall Order, Mongoose, Deathwish, and more lets you show off your style and makes everything feel more personal.
That said, while all of this adds to the charm, the game could take advantage of more content. As I already said, more game modes and the addition of events would take the gameplay experience to the next level. It’s already enjoyable, but more content doesn’t harm anyone.
Decent visuals and funky audio, but not quite Red Bull-level
Talking about the game’s visuals and audio, the graphics are fairly decent. They’re not exactly eye-catching but still manage to do their job. To me, the half-baked cartoony style feels a bit dated, similar to what you would find in older sports titles. That said, it doesn’t take away from your overall experience.

I just had higher expectations, considering it is from Red Bull. Coming to audio, it is also quite standard or decent for a sports title. It has that funky, chill vibe that fits well and doesn’t distract you during your gameplay. I liked a few of the tracks, even though most of them are nothing too appealing.
Clean UI and smooth controls provide an overall smooth experience
When it comes to the controls and user interface, Red Bull Playgrounds keeps things simple and clean. The layout makes it easy for you to navigate, with big fonts and simple icons that make everything clear for you, minimizing any confusion.

As for the controls, they are also very straightforward. You get three basic buttons: one to hold and speed up, and two for tilting. The response feels smooth, and I didn’t run into any issues, apart from the overall lag when I played the game in high graphics.
IAPs do exist, but you can fly without relying on them
Red Bull Playgrounds offer a range of in-app purchases, including the Premium Pass, which provides you with a lot of Gems, Vip Tickets, and a Bunch of Tricks. You’ll also find separate Trick Packs for each sport, to get lv10 upgraded Tricks and 150 Skill Points.

Similarly, there are packs for Track Pieces too. You can buy Gems with money and then use them to get Vip Tickets, Skill Points, and Trick Boxes. However, it is not necessary to purchase anything, and you can simply grind a lot and follow a free-to-play approach easily.
Final Verdict
Red Bull Playgrounds is a fun and engaging title, even if hitting the high scores can be a bit challenging sometimes. However, that challenge adds to the fun, honestly. If you’re into cycling, skating, or just enjoy urban sports in general, this title is worth checking out.
Despite some lag during Jam mode or when using high graphics, I still had a good time pulling off tricks and customizing my playground. I do wish the game were better optimized, though it runs fine on mid to high-end devices. And I loved the inclusion of real-world athletes and gear from popular brands.
With its mix of multi-sports gameplay, custom track-building, Jams, and cool gears, there’s enough content to keep you engaged for a while. And the addition of smooth controls, decent visuals, upbeat audio, and quick sessions, this one is a must-try, especially if you’re a fan of Red Bull or urban sports.
