MARVEL Mystic Mayhem is NetEase Games’ fresh take on the tactical RPG genre and a heavily MARVEL-skinned one. Here, you control a squad of three in real-time combat on grid-based arenas. In this review, I have covered the essential aspects of the game and some of the issues I think can be fixed.
For this review, I played MARVEL Mystic Mayhem on my Samsung S24 Ultra, and it ran smoothly. I have enjoyed the game to its maximum settings. After playing for over 20 hours, I have experienced almost every feature of the game and can provide a strong foundation for it.

Unleash chaos on your enemies with your favorite MARVEL heroes
Starting with the review, MARVEL Mystic Mayhem is a paradise for MARVEL fans and is a must-try to get hold of your favorite superheroes. Unlike traditional turn-based RPGs, the game allows you to control heroes on the battlefield in real-time.

I particularly enjoyed manually activating their skills and Ultimates to precisely target enemies and control the battle’s flow. It’s fast and strategic, surprisingly cinematic. And no, you won’t just sit back and watch the heroes like Iron Man do their jobs. You have the power to control them and make them do your bidding in real-time. However, you can use the auto-battle option when you’re just too lazy.
Victory comes when you time your attacks, chain your ultimates, and dodge bullets in slow motion like it’s the Matrix- but make it MARVEL. Early missions in the game feel like a mix of strategy, hero showcase, and visual spectacle. That’s a plus. Sometimes, it feels like you are on long training wheels and craving the real challenge.
Assemble your Avengers and utilize them to their strengths
One of Mystic Mayhem’s biggest advantages is how it handles its 26 heroes. Each one plays differently based on their classes: Defenders absorb the damage and annoy the enemies, Strikers deal burst damage from range, Fighters act like the brawlers of the group, and Controllers… well, you get the idea.

The good news? I was pleasantly surprised by how unique and powerful even early-game characters like Sleepwalker or Psylocke are. Each skill and ultimate has its own personality, with animations that are satisfying for the eyes and ears. When Scarlet Witch casts her ultimates and explodes the battlefield floor in chaos, I have felt like, “Did I just press the nuke button?”
However, not every hero is created equal. Some lower-rarity heroes fell flat on their faces by mid-game, and certain top-tier characters like Thor or Doctor Strange are locked behind the gacha banners. That’s when you feel like you`re in a gacha game. However, the game does offer rerolling and enough early resources to give casual players a chance to get started.
Explore a twisted world and Challenge Epic Bosses in an original storyline
The gameplay is where Mystic Mayhem shines most. I spent hours exploring different modes, from the main story campaign to the mind-bending Memento mode that mixes puzzle and character-based mechanics.

The strategic layer kicks in once you realize you’ve gone fully haywire, placing three damage dealers in the frontline. You need proper synergy. For example, Controllers who freeze or stun enemies work well with Strikers who require setup.
Positioning the defender in the frontline is a must; not doing so may result in your Iron Man becoming Iron Toast. However, I did notice the daily missions could start feeling repetitive after a while.

When you are not invested in gear farming or chasing hero upgrades, this repetition will get on your nerves. Still, the depth is of value when you have to complete daily missions and dungeon grinds for essential growth. But here’s the fun part: manual play is rewarded. If you’re someone who enjoys outwitting an enemy AI with perfect skill timing or chaining stuns before a boss charge-up, the game respects your effort. But I experienced that Auto-battle is a trap. The AI targets like a drunk Stormtrooper.
The game offers vibrant graphics and a soundtrack straight from MARVEL comics
Visually, the game is eye-soothing. I was constantly impressed by how the art direction feels like the great MARVEL creator himself Stan Lee wrote the comic book himself; with bright colors, dramatic camera zooms during ultimates, and flashy animations that genuinely feel superheroic.

Voice acting is top-notch (you’ll hear familiar tones if you’re a MARVEL die-hard), and sound effects pack a satisfying punch; headphones are a must. Whether it’s the crackle of Thor’s lightning or the Katana slash of Lady Bullseye, there’s always some flavor in your ears.
The background music provides just enough ambient to keep things feeling tense or epic, depending on the moment, without overwhelming with drums and trumpets. The audio design is one of the game’s undisputed heroes. The game feels alive between ambient dungeon sounds, voice lines that trigger during ultimates, and ramp-up music during boss fights and epic story missions.

It mirrors the kind of cinematic MARVEL energy that the fans are used to from their favorite shows and films. Even the menu music is oddly catchy; like, “accidentally leave it running in the background” catchy. Just don’t be shocked if your friends ask why your phone sounds like an Avengers trailer on a loop.
Experience smooth and responsive controls, yet a clunky UI
One of MARVEL Mystic Mayhem’s hidden strengths is its tight and responsive combat controls. Skill buttons snap into place, aiming feels natural, and movement feels silky smooth, well past the later stages of punishing boss fights.
Manual controls even reward timing and positioning sense with a bonus, especially when chaining ultimates or dodging attacks. 2x speed play still feels smooth, but as soon as you leave combat and enter the menus, things start to rattle a bit.

Now, about the UI; it’s stylish in a sense, but occasionally feels like I’m in a maze. Opening menus sometimes leads you through three or four clicks just to start a mission. Streamlining some of these interactions in future patches would take a big step towards making the overall user experience better.
Money brings you Dreamgems, your prized Infinity Stones
Let’s address the elephant in the room: Is this game free-to-play or pay-to-win? The answer is both. From my experience, in the early stages, the game showers you with resources: Dreamgems, Shadow Keys, Hero shards, upgrade materials, and Dreamstones. I managed to collect several strong heroes without spending thanks to the almighty rerolling strategy.

But eventually, as you progress, you’ll realize the need to spend one or two dollars to catch up with the progression. You’ll want duplicate heroes to upgrade skills or max out ultimates, requiring materials to upgrade the highlights and artifacts.
That’s when those Dreamstones emerge from the darkness to empty your wallets into eternal slumber. Still, you can compete with the paid players with smart planning and patience. Unless you are just craving to reach the top rapidly, then be my guest in spending.
Final Verdict
After my time with Marvel Mystic Mayhem, I can confidently say it’s what happens when solid tactical gameplay meets authentic Marvel style. It boils down strategic gameplay, rich customization, and flashy visuals into something both retro and contemporary. It is respectful of your time, mostly, and provides sufficient for you to sink your teeth into as you build your ideal team.
There are some faults: the menu system could be more fluid, some of the game modes can be gritty, and the F2P route isn’t always silky smooth. Unless you are a MARVEL fan who also likes tactical games, however, you may not wish to head down this road.
No matter if you’re popping in to squeeze in your morning run or indulging in a full-on grindathon, MARVEL Mystic Mayhem offers enough heroism, chaos, and intergalactic drama to capture your interest; cape, claws, and controller at the ready.

MARVEL Mystic Mayhem offers the generic team-based RPG take on the universe with some flashy visuals and gameplay. While the faithfuls of the franchise can appreciate it, others might not.
