Niantic has announced that Pokémon GO is headed to the 2025 Pokémon World Championships, set to take place from August 15 to 17, 2025, in Anaheim, California. To celebrate, the game is rolling out various events, avatar items, and more. The Championships were initially announced back in August 2024.
Celebrate Pokémon World Championships with in-game surprises in Pokémon GO
Pokémon GO is joining the Championships as the top players across the globe are gearing up to compete for the Pokémon GO World Champion title. If you’re interested, the broadcast will kick off at 9:00 a.m. PDT each day, and you can get a code for the 2025 Worlds Tee (White) on the first day.
To celebrate it, a special Pikachu sporting a varsity jacket is going to debut in the game, and if you’re lucky, you can encounter its Shiny version. You can find them in One-Star Raids, along with Honedge and Field Research tasks. Plus, Lapras, Dusclops, and Diggersby will appear in Three-Star Raids.
From August 15, wild encounters will include Nidoran♀, Mankey, Marill, Paldean Wooper, Spoink, Inkay, Rookidee, and Fuecoco, and you may find their shiny ones too. You can even find rarer ones like Male Frillish and Vullaby. You can do five Special Trades per day and find extras in the GO Battle League track.

For $5, you can access event-exclusive Timed Research, which includes a Premium Battle Pass, 25,000 Stardust, and encounters with Lickitung, Lapras, Azumarill, Sableye, Swalot, Claydol, Carbink, Guzzlord, and Lokix. What’s better is few Pokémon caught or evolved will also know or learn Charged Attacks.
Additionally, the GO Battle League is getting a fresh new look from August 11 to 17, featuring a new battle arena and background battle music. You’ll also be able to battle up to 100 times per day, earn 4x Stardust from your wins, and complete battle-themed Timed Research during Go Battle Weekend.
I’m excited to get the 2025 Worlds Jersey and Visor from the in-game shop, along with themed stickers from PokéStops, Gifts, and the in-game shop. On top of that, you can get various boxes like the GO Battle Weekend Ultra Ticket Box and the TM Elite Master Box from the Pokémon GO Web Store.
