Fortnite is finally on its way back to iPhones in Australia after a major court victory for Epic Games. An Australian court has ruled that Apple and Google have been limiting competition through their app store rules and payment systems, clearing the path for the popular battle royale to make its comeback.
Ruling in favour of Epic Games opens new doors for alternative mobile app stores
It has been a long wait for mobile players. Back in 2020, Fortnite was removed from the App Store after a clash between Epic and Apple over payment methods. Since then, the game has been missing from iOS in Australia while the legal fight continued.
Epic kept pushing for fairer rules that would give both developers and gamers more choices. However, the major ruling in favour of the company meant Fortnite ended a nearly five-year iOS exile with a US App Store return earlier this year, in May.
Now, with this new ruling, Fortnite can return to iOS. However, it will not be through Apple’s App Store. Instead, it will arrive via the Epic Games Store for iOS. This is a big step, not just for Fortnite fans, but also for the idea of having more than one place to download mobile games and apps.

Epic’s CEO, Tim Sweeney, called the decision a win for both developers and players in Australia. As per reports, Apple and Google are not completely happy with the verdict and may still challenge some parts of it. But for now, the door is open, and Fortnite’s return is only a matter of time.
