- Flappy Bird, the iconic endless runner by Dong Nguyen, is back on mobile under Flappy Bird Foundation.
- The new version includes Classic and Quest Modes, new worlds, characters, challenges, and more.
- The devs have confirmed the game will expand to more platforms.
Flappy Bird Publishing has announced the launch of the classic side-scroller arcade title, Flappy Bird, now available for Android on the Epic Games Store, after a decade-long hiatus. The game’s return was announced in September 2024, after a trademark acquisition by the Flappy Bird Foundation for free.
Flap your way through the challenging pipes once again
Flappy Bird, the highly addictive endless runner created by Dong Nguyen, is finally back on mobile, although via a different company. In this version of Flappy Bird, you can still flap your way through the obstacles in the Classic mode or take off to new worlds in the new Quest mode.
While I am happy to see the game return, you should know that the original creator, Dong, is not a part of this project. Matter of fact, he didn’t even make a single penny from this revival. The game’s trademark had expired, and it was taken over by Gametech Holdings, LLC, without providing any compensation.
Now, coming back to the game, you can meet various new characters like Tekno, a robotic bird, Quirky, who has a unicorn’s horn, and more. You can even customise them and explore various new worlds and levels.
No Web-3 elements, but Flappy Bird will feature ads and in-app purchases
The new devs did try launching the game earlier with Web-3 elements, but faced major backlash from the community. This time, though, they launched it as a Web-2 title, which is only getting monetised through in-game ads and buying helmets, which are extra lives.
Whether you want to relive the nostalgia like me, or you are going to experience it for the first time, this version looks promising with new gameplay, worlds, challenges, and various content. I wish they would remove the in-game ads in the future, as they are pretty annoying.
Flappy Bird is now available on Android, and you can download the game for free via the Epic Games Store. The devs have confirmed that they are working to bring it to more platforms, although specific details haven’t been revealed. Stay tuned for more updates.
