- KRAFTON has officially renamed Dark and Darker Mobile to Abyss of Dungeons.
- Despite the new name, the gameplay experience is confirmed to remain unchanged.
- Abyss of Dungeons is still expected to launch globally in the first half of 2025.
KRAFTON officially announced that its mobile dungeon crawler, once known as Dark and Darker Mobile, will now be called Abyss of Dungeons. The new name was officially confirmed today via the social media handles of the game.
The rename follows the end of IP licensing between KRAFTON and Ironmace
KRAFTON says the rename reflects the game’s deeper, darker atmosphere, with richer lore and more intense combat. Despite the change, the gameplay experience will remain the same, which they say Dark and Darker Mobile is “just under a new name“.
This decision is not a shocking one, if you ask me. There were already rumours that KRAFTON and Dark and Darker developers Ironmace had ended their licensing deal for the Dark and Darker IP earlier this year. Since the partnership ended, a name change was expected.
Developed by KRAFTON’s Bluehole Studio, the project was underway when KRAFTON acquired the exclusive global license for Dark and Darker IP. The game is currently live in Canada and the USA in its soft launch phase.
The name change may take some getting used to, but it sets the stage for the game to grow on its terms without relying on the IP, although the hype was built on the same. At the time of writing, I noticed the Google and iOS store pages are still active under the Dark and Darker Mobile name.
The soft-launch will extend to Indonesia, Thailand, Brazil, and Mexico on June 11, 2025. Abyss of Dungeons is still expected to launch globally in the coming months, since KRAFTON had mentioned a first-half 2025 release, although no official announcements have been made about worldwide availability.
