Clash of Clans Town Hall 18 update details: Every expected feature explained

Town Hall 18 and new gameplay mechanic

Clash of Clans is gearing up for another big leap as Town Hall 18 is set to arrive at the end of 2025. One of the big changes is that the developers have confirmed that TH18 will introduce a brand-new gameplay mechanic never seen before in the game.

The team didn’t go into full details, but it’s expected to shake up how you engage with your home villages, especially for those at the endgame. Temporary content like Superchargers and Crafted Defenses is also being used to keep maxed-out players busy without pressuring newer ones who are still working through TH17.

The developers are trying to balance temporary content and permanent progression. They’re aware that too much temporary content can become overwhelming, so they’re exploring that limit to make the game fun without feeling bloated.

New troop: Elephant Rider

The Elephant Rider troop, which won the Supercell Make campaign, will make its way into the game as an event troop. From the description given in the campaign, when deployed, the Elephant Rider runs into nearby walls, destroying large wall segments, and splits into separate Troops.

While there’s no fixed date or event tied to its debut yet, the developers have confirmed it will appear in future content. The team was also impressed by many other troop concepts submitted during the campaign, and this could lead to similar events for designing new defenses or equipment.

Equipment and ore system changes

Epic equipment drops are now expected every two months for the rest of 2025. Since July didn’t get one, August is almost guaranteed to bring a new epic piece. Once Town Hall 18 is released, there are two possibilities: either new equipment levels will be added, or current levels will be balanced to remain useful.

The ore system is due for improvement. The devs acknowledged the Starry Ore economy isn’t ideal, especially for returning players. They’re exploring ways to make catching up easier, potentially with events like an Ore Hammer Jam and adding Starry Ore to Star Bonuses. More improvements are expected heading into 2026.

Event changes for Gold Rush and Clan Games

Gold Rush was a huge hit, especially with its collaboration elements. It will return 3 to 4 times a year with new resource themes like Elixir or Dark Elixir. Future versions might include bonus weekends or easier grind paths.

Clan Games may also get an overhaul. One idea is a clan-wide bingo board, where completing smaller tasks unlocks bigger rewards. The team also wants to tie Season Challenges closer to regular gameplay, so you won’t need to go out of their way to use specific troops or attack in Builder Base.

Chest system and cosmetic plans

The treasure chests have been a success, especially for free-to-play players. The team is also working on new cosmetic items like Mythic Hero Skins with custom animations and troop skins, although defensive skins are off the table due to gameplay clarity.

Super Troops and balancing

Super Troops might get reworked, with the possibility of permanently unlocking them at certain Town Hall levels instead of needing to boost them. Underused troops like Super Valkyrie may get updates in the future, but they aren’t a current priority.

Other additional information

Also, it has been confirmed that Builder Base and Clan Capital won’t be getting updates anytime soon. The developers are focusing on polishing the Home Village experience before deciding how these modes should fit into the game.

There’s no plan to allow wall upgrades without a builder, as it could mess with multiplayer loot balance. The player profile system is likely to get a future overhaul, especially to accommodate newer cosmetics like seasonal defenses. The team wants to revamp it alongside other major systems for better UX.

Finally, pricing and access changes are being worked on globally. More payment methods like UPI in India are being added to the Supercell Store. Collaborations like Haaland and WWE were successful, and more may come, typically planned a year.

However, note that the 13th Clashiversary is shaping up to be the biggest yet. There’s a possibility of a free scenery like in the 10th anniversary. Themes and discounts are expected through Summerjam, combining Gold, Elixir, and Dark Elixir perks.

When will the Town Hall 18 update arrive in Clash of Clans

Although we do know the update will arrive at the end of 2025, there’s no official release date yet. Going by the Town Hall 17 update, which was released in November last year, we can expect this one to be released around the same time.
