We sat down with Silina Senica Pintar, Product Manager, and Tjaša Derstvenšek, Product Marketing Manager at Outfit7, both involved in bringing the Hair Salon to life for an interview to chat about the making of the Hair Salon, current trends, and a few hilarious beauty mishaps along the way in My Talking Angela 2.
1. Silina, as Product Manager, you’re deeply involved in creating everything about My Talking Angela 2. What was the inspiration behind the new Hair Salon?
Silina: Hair is such a powerful way people express themselves – it’s one of the first things you notice about someone. We thought: what if we gave players the tools to turn Talking Angela’s hair into a canvas? Not just color and cuts, but accessories, glitter, ombré, and wild experiments. We wanted it to feel like a full glam playground.
Honestly, we binged tons of makeover videos on YouTube: big transformations, beauty fails, bold colors, and thought, this is it. But we didn’t just stop there. We were also watching how our players were using the game, what they gravitated toward in My Talking Angela 2, and how they played with fashion and style. That gave us a real insight into what excites them.
So, with the Hair Salon now joining the already awesome Fashion Editor, where players get to play fashion designer, they’ve got a full glam playground from head to toe.
2. Tjaša, as the Product Marketing Manager, you get to shout from the rooftops about all the coolest features, like the Hair Salon! How do you see this new feature fitting into what players want?
Tjaša: Honestly, we’ve seen time and time again that players love being able to express themselves. Whether it’s through fashion or now with crazy hair makeovers, they just want to get creative and have fun. The Hair Salon is like this little creative playground-you can shampoo, blow-dry, cut, color, throw on some glitter, and go wild with accessories.
It’s all about making Angela your own. And what I love most is that it’s not about perfection. Maybe the bangs are a bit uneven, or the colors don’t exactly match, but that’s what makes it awesome. It’s playful, personal, and just full of personality.
3. What was the trickiest part of making the Hair Salon both fun and easy to use for players?
Silina: One of the trickiest parts was nailing the hair physics. We had to figure out how the hair should move and how much control we wanted to give players. Like, should it behave like real hair and flop around when you brush it? Or should it stay exactly how you styled it? Half the team was all-in on realism, and the other half wanted more creative freedom.
In the end, we found this nice sweet spot. Brushing feels soft and natural, but it won’t totally mess up the style. And if you do want to go wild, we added styling tools like a gel so you can spike it up, shape it however you want, and go full rockstar if that’s your vibe. It took a lot of trial and error, but getting it just right felt amazing.
4. Was there a moment during development that made you smile or laugh, maybe something unexpected or funny?
Silina: Absolutely! Early on, the hair physics was wild. Angela looked like Medusa with snakes flying everywhere! We all laughed but knew we had to fix it. We added textures and refined the strands until the hair felt polished but still playful.
Before production, we did a fun workshop with players using mannequin heads, scissors, scrunchies, clip-ons, etc, basically all the tools they might use to play Hair Salon in real life. It was hilarious and super helpful.
Plus, watching the guys on our team try to figure out scrunchies and clips was priceless-they kept asking, “Wait, where does this clip even go?” It was funny but also made sure the game stayed easy and intuitive for everyone.
5. How are players responding to the Hair Salon, and what’s the bigger story you want to tell with this campaign?
Tjaša: Players love the Hair Salon! It’s a wild, no-rules playground where you can rock electric-blue roots, glitter explosions, or those “what just happened?!” haircuts, all without a single real-life worry. It’s all about freedom, fun, creativity, and owning every look, even those gloriously “bad hair days.”
Angela’s never felt more relatable; she’s showing it’s 100% okay to get messy and still totally shine. Whether she’s rocking wild styles or going bald (yep, really!), Angela stays iconic. We want everyone to feel free, have a blast, and be fabulous themselves.
And the best part? Player creations are already flooding Angela’s socials. Honestly, it’s one big, colorful hair party out there! But this campaign is more than just fun and games; it’s a celebration of loving your perfectly imperfect self.
6. This is the second big customization feature in a row after the Fashion Editor launched last year. How do these two features work together to shape player creativity in My Talking Angela 2?
Tjaša: Fashion Editor and the Hair Salon are the dynamic duo of self-expression in Angela’s world. With Fashion Editor, players get to dive into styling awesome outfits, and now with Hair Salon, it’s all about going wild with hair.
What’s cool is that these features don’t just live side-by-side; they enable players to fully customize and personalize Angela’s appearance from head to toe. And they enable our marketing team to do awesome engagement campaigns.
Right now, players can post their best looks on Angela’s socials, and she’ll be picking her faves to shout out. Even better, one lucky outfit will get added to the game as Angela’s next iconic look. I think it’s such a fun way to celebrate our community’s creativity.
7. Customization is huge in mobile games, but it’s a crowded space. What makes My Talking Angela 2 stand out? And why do makeovers and fashion games keep thriving?
Tjaša: We’re not just jumping on a trend, we’re adding our magic. Fashion features in My Talking Angela 2 let players tap into their imagination, express their creativity, and try something bold, and Angela is the face of that. That’s why the Hair Salon doesn’t feel like an add-on; it’s her spirit in gameplay form. It fits naturally into her world, and that authenticity makes it special.
8. Looking ahead, what excites you most about the future of creative self-expression in My Talking Angela 2?
Silina: Honestly, I’m just so excited about giving players even more ways to get creative. We’re working on new tools, fresh textures, and styles that will let everyone put their spin on Angela’s look. We want every update to feel fresh and inspiring, like an endless playground for creativity.
What excites me is the player community itself. They’re already so creative, and we want to shine a spotlight on that, with challenges, contests, and campaigns that celebrate their unique styles. It’s about building a space where everyone feels free to be exactly who they are. We’re just getting started, and I can’t wait to see what we come up with next.
9. Last question, any advice for players about how to make the most of the Hair Salon?
Silina: Just have fun and don’t be afraid to get a little wild! Some of the best styles come from happy accidents or trying something totally outside your comfort zone. The whole point is to play around, experiment, and make Angela’s look totally your own.
