- Tips and Tricks to for a smooth experience
Puzzle and Dragons 0 is a simplified match-3 puzzle title and a more accessible version of the long-running mobile game Puzzle and Dragons, developed by GungHo Online Entertainment. In this Puzzle and Dragons 0 Beginners Guide, I will discuss the title’s major gameplay highlights and some useful tips that I realised while playing the game.
While the original Puzzle and Dragons built a massive content library over the years, it also became increasingly complex, making it harder for new players to jump in. The developers saw this as an issue as the game was just too complicated to cater to the new audience, while the veterans didn’t want the game to go stale and boring if the devs made it too simple and to address all the issues stated above Puzzle and Dragons 0 was created which was the best of both worlds as new players wont have go through all the complex mechanics the old one has to offer without sacrificing its core gameplay and veterans wont have their OG Puzzle and Dragons ruined because of the newer fan base find it too complex.
Puzzle and Dragons 0: Gameplay Basics
Freely moving match-3 mechanics
The core gameplay of Puzzle and Dragons 0 is based around the typical match-3, with a twist. Normally, in match-3 gameplay, players get a specific number of moves, while in Puzzle and Dragons 0, it’s all based on a health pool system independent of the number of moves. Another thing PAD0 improves upon in this traditional system is that players can freely move all the orbs in any direction, whether it matches another orb or not; however, matching orbs with their respective elements does trigger a reaction which results an attack from the monsters from the players’ team.

The combat in Puzzle and Dragons 0 is turn-based, which means that both you and the enemy take turns hitting each other after every turn. This also means players need to plan out their strategy in real time before playing any move. A combo chain means a bigger damage inflicted by your monsters on the enemy team
Teams and Monsters
A team is composed of about 3 sub-monsters and 1 leader during the beginning hours, and 4 sub-monsters and 1 leader once you reach a certain level in the game. The sub-monsters have an active skill that can be activated after a certain number of moves, while the leader is equipped with both active and passive skills that are applied to all the team members not dependant on the number of moves played. Pick a leader who works well with the team and supports your suitable playstyle, be it attack-heavy or long-run defensive

Just like the original game, each monster in the team comprises certain stats players need to look at before making their team composition for final raiding dungeons. These stats consist of basics like health, damage per turn, active ability and resistance to enemy attack.
Leveling and Evolution
Monsters in Puzzle and Dragons 0 can be leveled up by completing levels and using other monsters as materials to level up some units provide more experience than others, particularly special “Enhance” monsters, which are designed specifically for leveling purposes.
Level increase results in an increase of stats like health and attack. But the real deal is when a monster evolves, as not only does it change how the core mechanics of how a monster works, but also completely changes how it’s played and its base stats.
Evolved monsters usually gain better stats, new skills, and even passive abilities that provide useful bonuses such as increased combo time or damage resistance.
Understanding Skills and the Leader’s ability
Each monster possesses an active skill that can be used in battle once it has charged over several turns. These skills vary widely, some change orb color, i.e, heal the team, deal direct damage, or provide buffs and debuffs.

Understanding when and how to use active skills is a key part of a more advanced strategy, especially in boss fights or challenging dungeons/stages and levels. Using skills often results in certain buffs and debuffs for either your team or the enemy team. Using the leader’s skill often results in long combo chains and massive damage or debuffs to the enemy team.
Puzzle and Dragons 0 Beginners Guide: Tips and Tricks
1. Focus on one specific Core team
Don’t spend all your resources on all the characters/monsters you unlock, just spend on what you use, and save resources for future upgrades or for an upgrade of a team you might use in the future.
2. Practice Combo movements regularly
Orb movement is both luck and skill-based. Try to practice combo chains and combo makings on low-level dungeons to hone your skills for the more advanced/difficult dungeons.
3. Pay attention to enemy’s turns
As the combat is turn-based, the enemy attacks occur after your turn is finished. try to get the battle over before the enemy’s turn counter turns to zero,..
4. Don’t chase Rarity blindly
High-rarity monsters can be strong, but not every one fits your current team. Look for useful leader skills, orb changers, or healers that support your playstyle instead.
5. Stay connected to the community
Lastly always stay connected to the online community for advanced guides, general help, community tournaments and giveaways.
