Best meta characters in Persona 5: The Phantom X

Now moving forward with the Persona 5: The Phantom X character tier list, we will try and list out the best characters available in the game from each tier stated in the table above. As you can see in the table above, there are currently 18 launch characters that are there for players to collect and have them fight beside you in the battles.

Each character has different aspects to them, and the game does a great job of providing diverse options to choose from. With the inclusion of elements and classes, the selection for the best characters makes this list highly subjective, as for every player, different characters might prove more useful depending on the gameplay.

Ren Amamiya (Joker)

Joker is a 5-Star character that deals Curse damage. He is your main guy when it comes to general content. He gets a bunch of extra turns from his passive and deals solid AoE damage.

His base multipliers aren’t super high, but once he starts chaining those extra turns together, the damage starts adding up. He’s not always the best for bosses since some don’t have mobs around him, but for daily grinding and general use, he’s still cracked.

Seiji Shiratori (Fleuret)

Fleuret is a 4-star character that deals Wind damage. He dishes out massive DPS, especially with his skill three and winded stacks. You need his A6 to unlock his full potential, but once he gets going, he can multi-hit and crit like a monster. His kit makes him one of the top-tier damage dealers, even rivaling other 5-Star units.

Ann Takamaki (Panther)

Panther is a 5-star character that deals Fire damage. Panther is a Fire DPS unit that just does way too much damage to be a standard character. She gets a massive attack boost at higher dupes and works beautifully with Cattle.

Even with just A1, she can become a serious threat in any content, and later down the line, she scales hard. She’s arguably even better than some limited units.

Yaoling Li (Rin)

Rin is a 5-star character that deals Curse damage. She is a support debuffer built for Curse-based teams, especially with Joker. She applies silence (forgets), shreds enemy resistance, and doesn’t rely heavily on having her five-star weapon. She’s great at weakening enemies and keeping your curse team going smoothly.

Lufel (Cattle)

Cattle is a 4-star character that deals Fire damage. He is the go-to support if you’re looking to boost your team’s offense. He heals, gives solid attack buffs, and has strong synergy with fire-based units like An.

He replaced Morgana in most teams because he doesn’t overlap with support and still provides damage utility. If you can get him to higher dupes, he becomes even more valuable with extra effect hit rate and fire damage buffs.

Miyu Sahara (Puppet)

Miyu Sahara is a 4-star character who is the Navigator of the party. She is one of your two navigators at launch and works well if you need to sustain. She gives shields, and buffs, and helps reduce incoming damage, which makes her solid for keeping your team alive. She doesn’t do amazing damage or anything, but she’s reliable for survivability.

Best Team Compositions in Persona 5: The Phantom X

When it comes to building a solid team, the structure is simple. You want to fill four main roles: DPS, Sustain, Buffer/Debuffer, and Navigator. The meta early on is more damage-focused, but that’ll shift a bit once harder content and dual-team modes come out. For now, though, here’s how you want to approach your team setup.

Joker + Cattle + Rin + Puppet

Joker is your best all-round AoE damage dealer. He’s easy to build around, gets extra turns from passives, and you’ll often use his Skill 3 twice in a row after ulting. Best pick for general content and fast farming. Rin is the best debuffer in the game right now.

She reduces enemy resistance, applies “Forget” (silence), and increases the damage enemies take based on her speed. Great synergy with Joker for curse-based teams. Cattle is the current best overall sustain and support unit. He heals, buffs attack, and scales beautifully with fire teams. At high dupes, he gives massive fire damage boosts.

Panther + Cattle + Leon + Okyann

Panther is amazing for fire AoE and synergizes perfectly with Luff. Her Skill 3 is AoE, and her ult is solid too. If you can stack fire damage buffs, her damage ramps up hard. Leon is a solid unit if you want more healing + buffing.

He brings crit damage, attacks up, and even more support with dupes. A super solid four-star that remains relevant long-term. As for Navigator, Okyann offers more offensive stats, ideal for burst and AoE clearing.

Final Thoughts

Overall, team building in Persona 5: The Phantom X strikes a great balance between simplicity and strategy. Even with a limited roster at launch, you have enough strong units, both free and summonable to create powerful, well-rounded teams. The key is understanding your core roles: a reliable DPS, a sustain unit, a buffer/debuffer, and a navigator.

As more game modes unlock and the meta evolves, especially with dual-team requirements, building versatile units now will pay off later. Whether you’re free-to-play or lightly spending, smart investing in these essential roles will keep you competitive and ahead of the curve.
