The long-awaited Fate/Stay Night collab is finally here in the Version 3.4 update of Honkai: Star Rail. This event is called Fate/Stay Night: Holy Grail War, and it runs from July 11th, 2025, to August 11th, 2025. It’s a 1v1 tournament-style mode where we build teams using special Pieces to win fights and climb the reward ladder. In this Honkai: Star Rail Holy Grail War guide, I’ll lay down the strategies that you can use to complete the challenges and receive all the rewards.
To unlock the event normally, you just need to finish the Fate/Night in Dreamland Trailblaze Continuance mission (which is part of the Sweet Dreams and the Holy Grail storyline). If you’re in a hurry, though, you can use Finality’s Vision to unlock it early and jump straight in.
Honkai: Star Rail Holy Grail War Guide: Event Overview
The core of the gameplay is made up of back-to-back 1v1 fights, and you’re up against random enemy lineups every time. After each match, you earn coins that you can spend to buy Pieces, which are like special buffs that match up with different character classes (like Saber, Archer, Lancer, etc.). If you stack enough Pieces of the same class, you activate a Bond effect, which makes your team even stronger.
On top of that, you can also pick up Noble Phantasms and Command Spells during your runs. Think of these like big game-changers. Noble Phantasms can call in special attacks or even let you use Saber and Archer in your team. And Command Spells give you useful boosts or let you fine-tune your strategy mid-run.
At first, the random Pieces might seem kind of chaotic, but honestly, I learned it’s best to focus on building toward a full set of one class so I can activate their Bond. For example, if I start getting lots of Archer Pieces, I lean into that and grab more to trigger the full bonus.
Which Class to pick in the HSR Holy Grail War event
It depends on your team and playstyle. I love using the Archer class, especially with characters like Archer himself or Anaxa. Archer Pieces work well with Skill-heavy characters and give you tons of value early on, plus, the free skill from his Noble Phantasm is a lifesaver.
- If you like big Ultimate damage, go for Saber. Her team gets energy boosts and can cycle Ults fast. I ran Saber with Sunday, Robin, and Huohuo, and it was super smooth.
- For DoT players, Lancer is the way to go. Kafka and Black Swan dominate with Lancer Pieces since the damage scales with debuffs. I had a full debuff squad, and it shredded everything in the early levels.
- Berserker is pretty wild if you’re running characters like Castorice who want to lose HP for more power. These Pieces let you boost damage while taking risks, and it’s fun to play a more chaotic style.
- Assassin is all about Break damage and has this super cool “Swallow Reversal” effect that deletes weakness-broken enemies at low HP. I had fun running Anaxa teams with Assassin Pieces; it feels super satisfying when everything just explodes at the right time.
- Rider is wave-clear focused, so they’re great at lower difficulties but kind of fall off later when enemies get tanky. I didn’t stick with them too much, but they’re solid early on.
- Caster is a good backup class if you don’t get a full Bond going. Their Pieces have strong stats even without the bonus, so I used them to patch up runs where I didn’t get lucky with my main class.
Recommended Team Compositions for the Holy Grail War event
Here are some recommended teams I tried on that will ensure that you clear all the challenges and levels in the Event.
- For Archer, I used Archer + Sparkle + Ruan Mei + Sunday, and it was nuts. Once I hit 5 Archer Pieces, I got extra turns constantly.
- My Saber team was Saber + Sunday + Huohuo + Robin, and with the full Saber Bond, her Ult spammed constantly. Super clean and very easy to manage.
- I also ran a fun Anaxa/Therta Assassin team with Anaxa + The Herta + Tribbie + HuoHuo. The Break damage melted bosses, especially with the Assassin Bond fully active.
- And my Castorice Berserker team with Castorice + Tribbie + Hyacine + RMC was a damage powerhouse. The more I stacked Berserker Pieces, the harder it hit.
Honkai: Star Rail Holy Grail War event Tips and Tricks
Don’t stress too much about your first few Piece rolls. Focus on whichever class you get the most of and commit to stacking it. That way, you unlock the Bond effect faster, which turns the tide of battle. Try to keep 7 coins heading into each turn so you can buy more Pieces.
Also, don’t be afraid to sell upgraded Pieces, you get all the coins back, so it’s safe to pivot strategies. When picking Command Spells, choose ones that match your class. Some even help increase your Bond levels or give you extra Noble Phantasms.
Final Thoughts
Overall, the Fate/stay night event has been super fun and rewarding. I enjoyed building different teams and experimenting with the class Pieces and Bonds. Once I figured out how to stack the right ones, the battles got way easier and more exciting. The event’s not too hard to get into, and the rewards are worth it, especially the Stellar Jade and exclusive museum items. If you haven’t tried it yet, I recommend jumping in!
